Reveille In USCG Basic Training

Monday through Saturday

Many potential Coast Guard recruits who begin researching USCG Basic Training ask “what time do you wake up in Coast Guard Boot Camp?”. If that’s you and you are wondering the same thing, then keep reading to get the answer.

For most of you reading this, your alarm clock is probably your cell phone and you are able to choose whatever sound you want to wake up to in the morning. In Coast Guard Boot Camp there is only one default sound setting.

It’s loud – very loud.

It’s also known as your Company Commanders and their favorite alarm clock tool is a megaphone that they scream “fire, fire, fire!!!” through.

In the civilian world, you’re also able to choose the time you wake up – to some extent. You might have work and school obligations, but you still have a little bit more flexibility and choice in the matter than you will if / when you go to Coast Guard Basic Training.

In Coast Guard Boot Camp, you will wake up at the same time 6 out of the 7 days of the week for the duration of your time there. To be more specific, from Monday through Saturday, you will be woken up at 0530, or 5:30am, on the dot. The vast majority of those days will start with morning PT. Let me tell you, there’s nothing like getting those sweet gains at 0530 on a cold, New Jersey morning.

Sundays

Sundays are the one exception to the usual, daily wake up time. On Sundays you will be provided with an extra half hour grace period. Wake up time will take place at 0600, or 6:00am.

Sundays will also be a slight break from the typical routine of the other days. You’ll have the option of attending a religious service or use the time to write / read letters from folks back home, catch up on chores like laundry, etc.
